Abstract: Anewevaluationfunctiontocomputeremotesensingimagedefinitionwasproposedaccordingtoengineeringapplicationsandfeaturesofremotesensingimage,toovercometheshortagesoftraditionalimagedefinitionevaluationfunctions.Forlargedataanddifferentscenerydensityanddistributionofremotesensingimages,thedefinitionevaluatingprocesswasseparatedastargetareadetectionandcharacteristicparameterextraction.Firstly,detectionfunctiondetectedwholeimagetogettherichsceneryandobviousedgeareaastargetarea.Thenagraygradientfunctionmadeimagegraypretreatmentandextracteddefinitioncharacteristicparameterstoevaluateimagedefinition.Threedifferentkindsofremotesensingimages,namely,emulateddefocusingimage,emulatednoiseimageandonorbitsatelliteimagewereusedintheproposedmethod,toverifyitseffectivenessandaccuratenessbycomparingitwithfourtraditionalmethods.Theanalysisandemulationresultsshowthattheproposedmethodcanmeetthefourbasicdemandstoevaluatingremotesensingimagedefinitionandtacklethedeficienciesoftraditionalfunctionsinevaluatingdifferentremotesensingimages,itisavailabletoevaluateremotesensingimagedefinition.
