Abstract: Nowadays,wavelet based image compression algorithms are popular used in remote sensing image compression.The principle of wavelet based algorithms is to cut the high frequency information of image,therefore in the high compression ratio application,those methods may lose a lot of high frequency information of the remote sensing image.In order to reduce that distortion,a novel structure description based image compression algorithm was introduced,which had been proved to be superior to the SPIHT algorithm.
