Abstract: The spaceborne radar altimeter has been developed rapidly in the world since 1970s.This paper introduces the principles and the proper-ties of radar altimeters on satellite.The studies of radar altimeter,includingits background,significance,development history and current status,aresummarized,and the prospects of the development of radar altimeter onsatellite ture are discussed at last.
