Abstract: Theadaptabilityofcuspedfieldthrusterchangeswithdifferentoperatingconditions,especiallywithdifferentefficiencies,whichchangesalotatdifferentgasflowrates.Toovercomethisproblem,adivergingvariablecrosssectionchannelwasproposedtoimprovetheperformanceofcuspedfieldthrustersatlowandmiddlegasflowrate.Meanwhile,twoconstantsectionchannelswithabigdiameteranda smalldiameterrespectivelywereintroducedtobecomparedwiththedivergingchannel.Althoughthedivergingchannelmaycausealittledeclineintheatomdensitycomparedtothesmall constantsectionchannel,thedivergingchannelimprovestheefficiencyatbothlowandmiddlegasflowratesonthepremiseofprovidingaconsiderablethrust,becauseitdecreasestheenergylossofionsatexitandpromotesionizationbyimprovingthemagneticmirrorratio.Incomparison,boththebigconstantsectionchannelandthesmallconstantsectionchannelhavelowperformancesduetoalowerdensityofgasandabiggerwallloss.Therefore,adivergingchannelisbeneficialtoimprovingtheperformanceofacuspedfieldthrusteratlowandmiddlegasflowrate.
