Abstract: Owingtothelowconductivity,polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE)tendstoaccumulatesurface-chargewhichiscausedbyvariousfactors,eg.friction,spacechargecarriers,cosmicrays,etc.Additionally,thedecayofsurface-chargetakeslongtime.Itiscertainlysignificativetoinvestigatetheroleofsurfacechargeoninfluencingthesurface-breakdownbehavior.ThisworkendowsPTFEsamplefilmswithvariablesurface-chargedensitybyneedle-platecorona-chargingelectrodes.NegativeDCsurfacebreakdownvoltagewasthenmeasuredonallsamplesatatmosphericpressureandinvacuum.Experimentalresultsshowthatthesurfacechargedensityistailorablebyneedlevoltages;however,thenegativecoronaaccumulatessurfacechargefasterthanthepositivecorona.ThepositivesurfacechargebenefitstoreducenegativeDCsurfacebreakdownvoltage,whilenegativesurfacechargeslightlyleadstoanoppositeway,ie.enhancingthesurfacebreakdownvoltageforacertainextent.Additionally,theinfluenceofspacechargeonthebreakdownvoltageinvacuumisweakerthanthatatatmosphericpressure.
